Yr 7 & 8 Girls Rounders Tournaments

The Year 7’s and Year 8 Rounders Teams attended the Central Venue League Tournaments last week. The Yr 7 Girls were fantastic and entered 2 teams into the competition. They all had a nervous start but grew in confidence showing great promise in both batting and fielding. The Year 8 Girls showed brilliant team spirit and won 3 out of their 6 games. Special mention goes to Megan Phipps (Yr7), Maddie Davey (Yr7) and Jasmine Newstead (Yr8) for their great fielding skills. Also Josie Owens (Yr8) and Naomi Fielder (Yr8) for some good batting.

Annual chess competition

Court Fields School once again ran it’s annual chess competition throughout the Spring term as part of the country-wide Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge. Nearly thirty students, playing up to seven matches each, played a total of eighty-seven matches to discover who would be this year’s school Champion. That honour fell to Robert Webber, a year 9 student, with Lottie Radford, last year’s champion, the runner-up. The top year 7 student was Jamie Burge, with three other students – Jamie Garnett, Oscar Kemble, and Matt Thorne – receiving trophies for their efforts in the competition. Of those students who took part in the competition, twelve are now eligible to go forward to the Somerset ‘Megafinal’ which is being held at Millfield School.
