Ski Trip 2015

A group of thirty-five year eight, nine and ten students from Court Fields were fortunate enough to be able travel to Austria last week to go and enjoy the fabulous skiing and mountain scenery that it had to offer.  We set off in our coach on Friday evening with a long journey ahead and the excitement and anticipation aboard was amazing.  No one could wait to get going!  By midnight on Friday we had made it to the ferry and began our ‘voyage’ across the channel towards France.  From there we would go through Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland before finally making it to Austria.  The amount of snow and mountains visible from the coach windows grew and grew as the journey went on and a steady supply of films and food kept all on-board entertained and happy.

By Saturday evening, we pulled into the drive of the Aktivhotel Ederleiten in the town of Bruck in the Ziller valley.  The hotel and view were masked by the night and as we made our way inside we were greeted with a much needed hot meal before going to find our rooms.  It was all very welcoming and friendly and we were delighted to get to bed and get some real rest!

The next day we were up early to get our boots and skis fitted.  It was thrilling to really see where we had arrived in the morning light.  Our slap-up Austrian breakfast gave us the best possible start and we were soon heading up in the gondola where we would meet our ski instructors who would be our guides of the pistes for the week.  Those who were new to skiing would begin on the ‘nursery’ slopes whilst those who had skied before would go and do their best to remember what they had learnt before!  There were quite a few nervous people but once everyone got going, the nerves went pretty quickly.  The guidance from the instructors and the support that the students gave to one another helped everyone to truly enjoy the experience.

During the week we were able to ski in three beautiful ski resorts, but we spent most of our time at the gorgeous Kaltenbach, close to where we were staying.  In the evenings we had the opportunity to enjoy several après ski activities including ice skating, swimming and pizza eating.  An Austrian leg wrestling tournament was also held on one eventful night which really got everybody involved!  On the second to last day we all took part in a race and that night a presentation evening was put by the teachers and instructors on to award certificates and medals.  It also gave us an opportunity to say ‘danke schön’ to the great people who had taught us on the slopes.

As the end of the week drew to a close, it was difficult to believe that we were really going to be going home!  The time had flown past and we had all been enjoying every moment of it.  That Friday we left and set off home again.  It was very hard to say goodbye to the mountains which had become so familiar in the past week.  However, we were looking forward to getting back and seeing our friends and families to tell them all about our adventures.  Our incredible trip would not have been at all possible without the fantastic work from the teachers who came with us and on behalf of everyone, I would like to thank the staff who made it possible!
